make 是“制作”，believe是“相信”，make believe 是什么意思？
◆ to make believe:
(to pretend) 假装
◇ 说明
a. make believe 表“假装”，与 pretend 同义，之后接 that 从句做宾语，用法如下：
The poor manmade believethat he was rich.
= The poor man pretended that he was rich.
（这个穷光蛋假装很有钱。）
b. make believe 之后只以 that 从句做宾语，而 pretend 之后可接 that 从句或 to 引导的不定式短语。因此上句亦可改写成：
The poor man pretended tobe rich.
（这个穷光蛋假装很有钱。）
◇ 例:
George made believethat he was sick so that he would not have to go to school.
（乔治假装生病，这样他就可以不必去上学。）
Do you think that Mary was only making believethat she was tired?
（你认为玛丽只是假装疲倦吗？）
